NPC Bodybuilder Brady Johnston Interviewed By FullyFlexed.com
What’s your background? How did you get started into bodybuilding?
Growing up I started wrestling at the early age of seven I loved the sport and the feeling of knowing my own sacrifice in the gym and on the Mat was mine only, so I relate bodybuilding a lot to wrestling it kind of gave me the self discipline I needed to be good at the sport of bodybuilding. I’m very grateful for my coaches and my father for being so helpful in making me disciplined in that regard. My older brother Garrad was always into the bodybuilding magazines and stuff, and I remember looking at them sometimes when I was around 12 or so thinking to myself how did they get so big? My brother later started competing and I would watch him diet and I was like no way would I ever want to eat that many meals a day and not be able to eat what I want. Then at the age of 25 I had gained little bit of fat not much but it was too much to me, so I started training and eating the same stuff as my brother and I grew and grew very fast. One day my brother told me I should do a show with him, so in the spring of 2005 we both competed together I placed 3rd in the middle weights – I knew that from that day on I was addicted to the sport and how great of feeling it was to be in the best shape of my life – even better then in my days on the wrestling mat, so here I am still going forward with my dream of earning my IFBB pro card.
What are some of your accomplishments in the sport of bodybuilding?
Some of my accomplishments are placing top five in 6 different shows, and being featured in the European body fitness magazine.
What’s the best thing you like about being into bodybuilding?
The # 1 thing I like about the sport is of course the pump and the power I feel from it, no high out there is like what I get from the gym. If I’m having a bad day I go to the gym and boom after I’m all happy again. I love seeing results everyday and thinking to myself “God gave me this gift to use and to inspire others to reach for their own goals and to have belief that you will achieve anything if you put your mind to it.” Speaking of about mind people look at a bodybuilders or a pretty fitness girls and they think it’s all body that gets them there, when truth is its all mind – you have to put yourself in a zone when you get ready for a show – that can only be described by someone who has been there, and being there is a very powerful feeling to be able to control your body and mind.
What’s your workout routine like?
My workout routine in the off season goes; Monday – chest, Tuesday – back, Wednesday – shoulders, Thursday – legs, Friday – arms, Saturday and Sunday off. getting ready this time for my show I really haven’t taken any days off I start my routine then re start it when I’m done I take a day off if I feel I need it I know my body very well.
What’s your cardio workout like? Anything specific you like to do for cardio?
For cardio I use the treadmill at a 7 to 10 percent incline at a speed of 3.5 for 30minutes it’s like your hiking and then I do the stair mill and the arc trainer.
What’s your nutrition like? What do you change up to lose or gain weight? What’s your diet like on the days leading up to shows?
In the off season this year I ate a lot of foods I normally don’t eat, and let me tell you it was the best thing I have done by far but I still didn’t get above 13 percent body fat when you are in the off season you need to stay at or below 14 percent in my opinion. Final days going into a show I don’t totally carb deplete myself I try to be moderate with this but I do believe in filling your muscle stores with carbs the last few days before the show I also I cut my water around 6 pm the night before the show the morning of I drink around 8 oz. of water.
What’s your supplementation like? Anything you prefer?
I supplement with some pre-workout drink like NO explode I use a lot of Vitamin B, C, and E Glutamine, and BCAA
Could you tell us what your daily routine is like?

After this is just a sample of my contest prep but it changes all the time:

9:00 PM 2 cans of tuna rinsed or 8 oz of chicken
What are your current plans?
My plans in bodybuilding are to take myself as far as I can and I hope that will be to earn my IFBB pro card first things first I’m competing march 20th in Salt Lake city at a NPC national qualifier and then April 16th and 17th at the emerald cup in Seattle.
Any advice you want to give beginner bodybuilders out there?
My advice I give to beginners is to realize what you’re getting yourself into, and don’t think it comes easy you have to be willing to give more things up then you can ever imagine. There are pros and cons to it but to me by far the pros have always outweighed the cons my saying is “No Limits and No Regrets” and that is the way I choose to live.
