FAME Bikini Model Pro Jaquelyn Kay Interviewed By FullyFlexed.com

jaqCan you tell us a bit about yourself, and how you got into fitness?
I grew up running track and cross country, and as I got into college I became bored with nothing to train for. It was then I met strongman competitor Jesse Marunde and his wife Callie who was also a competitor. They motivated me to try it out, I did and was instantly hooked!

Care to share some of your accomplishments, and what your current goals are?
I compete in the Tri Fitness World Challenge every year (since 2005) and for the past two years I have held the Grace and Physique Winner title.

In 2006 I competed in NPC in Washington State and placed 2nd, and 1st.
In 2007 I placed 4th in the Flex bikini contest at the Olympia Expo.
I earned my FAME bikini Pro at the Boise Fit Expo in 2008.

My claim to fame is gracing the cover of the January 2008 Oxygen Magazine, and I am an Optimum Nutrition and American Bodybuilding.com sponsored athlete.

What do you like best about being into fitness?
The way that I feel. I feel healthy, and have great energy. I love feeling strong!
It is also a wonderful feeling knowing that you can help motivate and inspire others to change their lifestyles.

How do you stay motivated to keep up the workouts and diets?

Competitions keep me motivated to stay on top of the diet.

As far as workouts go, I follow crossfit.com programming. I am very competitive with myself so I always strive to do my best. I go into the gym nervous because I always want to better myself; lift more weight, and become faster!

What is your current training program like? What type of cardio workouts do you do?
Crossfit.com programming is all I follow. It is a mix of high intensity training workouts, body weight, gymnastic movements, sprinting and Olympic lifting. I do not do any extra cardio and I love that because gym time can take up a lot of your day if you are doing hours on the treadmill getting ready for a show!

Whats your nutrition like? Any favorite foods you like to use while dieting and when you have cheat meals?

I follow the zone/paleo diet. I love cooking with almond meal and coconut flour! I make a great paleo dinner, fried chicken! It sounds so unhealthy and tastes like a cheat meal but its completely paleo friendly I can eat it while dieting and feel like I have had a cheat meal! Its just chicken, egg and either almond or coconut flour with spices. You fry it on a pan with a little olive oil…delicious!!

Can you describe what your diet is like leading up to the final days of competitions?

jaq600

I keep my diet the same the entire way through. I never carb deplete or load. It is just what works for me. I do take out a little water, but just the day before the competition.

jaqhighWhats your supplementation like? Anything you prefer to use?

ONs HMB for recovery, it works wonders. Also, ON Fish oil and Opti-woman I take on a regular basis.

Care to share what your daily routine is like with us?

I work as a personal trainer from 6am-2pm. I am lucky to have a career where I can still compete and do what I love! I always have time to sit down and eat every 2.5 hours.

I usually go workout right after work, make dinner, relax a little and then go to bed. Pretty basic!

Whats the best advice you’ve ever received? And what’s the best advice you’d like to give to people regarding fitness?
My dad always tells me “If you think you can, you will.”

He has always been a great support and encourages me to compete as much as I can, and don’t pass up the chance because later in life I might regret that I didn’t give it a try!
I think that is great advice for anyone. No matter what your age…don’t let life pass you by, be the best you can be and if you want to be a healthy, fitter you…do it!! No goal is out of reach.

Any favorite quote or personal saying you like to use?

Obsessed is what the lazy call the DETERMINED!
